Judy Kay Vokes


Judy Kay (Tranby) Vokes was born June 29, 1940 in Deer Creek, MN to Frank and Josephine (Trunick) Tranby. She grew up in Deer Creek on “the farm” with her family and graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1958. Judy started working for Northwestern Bell in Fargo as an operator and later transferred to Edina where she met Kay’s brother, Larry Vokes. They married on August 14, 1969. They were married for 49 years. Judy chose to stay home and raise her girls. After the girls left the house, Judy went back to work at Roma Tool then Altron until she retired. Judy enjoyed most in life entertaining family and friends, reading, canning, cooking and spoiling her four grandchildren. She was the sweetest person and had a wonderful sense of humor. She is survived by her husband Larry Vokes; daughters Kelly (Bob) Cerqua of Onamia, MN, Susan (Chuck) Blaedorn of Zimmerman, MN; grandchildren Andy Vokes, Katie, Jacob and Gracie Blaedorn; her siblings Gracie Hendrickson, David (Kathy) Tranby, Ole (Kim) Tranby, Faye Ellingsworth and Les (Sharon) Tranby; and many other loved ones. Judy was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Josephine Tranby; siblings Joyce, Gene, Babe, Frankie and Denny. Memorial Service will be Saturday, December 1st at the American Legion in Elk River from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Burial service (Judy was cremated) will be at “the farm” at the annual family reunion in June 2019.
